OBSCENE: A Queer Sex Show is a queer-feminist interpretation of the Salambo Club, the first and last live sex theater on Hamburg’s Reeperbahn. The audience experiences reenactments of the legendary Salambo numbers, is there live when Hamburg’s fastest prostitute breaks the world record, and can be enchanted by the underwater show of the stark naked mermaid.

Ruby Rawson’s team questions the separation of pornography and high culture and examines the subversive potential of live sex theater. In doing so, they followed in the footsteps of Salambo, spoke with historian Eva Decker, researched Günter Zint’s photo archive, and met Krista Beinstein, an icon of the lesbian BDSM scene.

Salambo was a workplace, home, and safe space for marginalized people. They were the stars of the club, whom the team wants to honor with a fun variety show evening combining erotic theater, cabaret, and striptease. Ruby Rawson and her team are opening a queer sex theater. At least for one night.



OBSCENE: A Queer Sex Show ist eine queerfeministische Interpretation des Salambo Clubs, des ersten und letzten Live-Sex-Theaters auf der Hamburger Reeperbahn. Das Publikum erlebt Reenactments der legendären Salambo-Nummern, ist live dabei, wenn die schnellste Kommer*in Hamburgs den Weltrekord bricht und kann sich von der Unterwasser-Show einer splitterfasernackten Nixe verzaubern lassen.

Das Team um Ruby Rawson hinterfragt die Trennung von Pornografie und Hochkultur und untersucht das subversive Potential von Live-Sex-Theater. Dabei hat es sich auf die Spuren des Salambos, begeben, sprach mit Historikerin Eva Decker, recherchierte in Günter Zints Foto-Archiv und traf Krista Beinstein, eine Ikone der lesbischen BDSM-Szene.

Das Salambo war Arbeitsort, Zuhause und Schutzraum für marginalisierte Personen. Sie waren die Stars des Clubs, die das Team ehren will — mit einem Fun-Varieté-Abend zwischen Erotiktheater, Cabaret und Stripshow. Ruby Rawson und Team eröffnen ein queeres Sextheater. Zumindest für eine Nacht.
