Time & Musicality - 1-day Improvisation & Instant Composition Workshop
15.01.2022 11.00-15.30h Studio 2 Mime Centrum Berlin This one-day workshop is dedicated to the topic of time and musicality in improvisation and instantly composed movement and dance. Starting from a somatic body tune-in, we will move into playfully exploring: different ways of perceiving time in and through movement, taking our choreography through time - “being in time“, playing with phrasing and rhythmicality, practicing the skills of instant embodied interpretation of music and interacting with music. Through the process we will look for an effortless, sustainable physicality and technique, a body that is soft and receptive, yet awake, perceptive and alert for intuitive and well-timed actions. The research will lead us into the creation of improvised, instantly composed short pieces, which directly integrates our work into an artistic, performative result that we will joyfully observe and participate in. Contemporary Dabke Workshop
Online from 8th of January on Mondiale Berlin. with Medhad Aldaabal, Edith Buttingsrud Pedersen and Ali Hasan The workshop focuses on creating complex body awareness, understanding body-mind connection, individual physicality and releasing reliance on the brain. We learn how to use the emotional state and the precise imagery as a motor for movement. We, Edith and Medhat, have combined the work of contemporary dance and traditional “Dabke” (a Syrian dance), into a fun and communal explorative journey for this workshop. We will work to free the body from its determination and ordinary paths, and encourage the participants to develop layers of complexity in their physical language. It was an experiment, and an attempt to move away from the Guru mentality I sometimes experience in arts universities and theachings. I decided to work collaboratively and as a colleague rather than a teacher with my students from Athanor Akademie they made it possible for me to share and rely on them as friends, colleagues and Inspirational sources."
