Freedom Nr. 39-145
„Freedom nr. 39–145“ is a dance performance, an exploration of the search for “freedom.” In it, the choreographer and lecturer at the Athanor Akademie, Edith Buttingsrud Pedersen, together with the third-year acting students, questions our notions of freedom. What do we mean when we wish for freedom: freedom from what? And freedom for what? Does freedom inevitably go hand in hand with loneliness? Or can we be free and at the same time connected to one another? Can we be free when we love?
In an intense performance, the 12 performers of the academy take the audience on a fascinating journey through the great dream of freedom and its real manifestations. Again and again, they begin with a new idea of freedom, pursuing it consistently to its conclusion—thinking it, speaking it, performing it. They seek freedom in synchronicity, in isolation, in the permission to be grotesque, to be everything, in transformation, in togetherness, in opposition, in the ego trip, in constant action, and in absolute stillness.
I think I might have found freedom.
I mean , I think I might have found the road to freedom.
If i could forget you and this, and the construction side inside my self, that is creating “my self”, I might feel free.
I am not really sure what to feel free from or what I shall look for freedom to. I am not really sure freedom is what I need. But I mean , Its FREEDOM!
Perhaps if I can let go of everything I know,
Perhaps if I dance, and let my self sort of “flow with the moment” (yoga/ guru type.. )
Perhaps if I can let go of you,
Perhaps if I could be polyamourous and like more open and just like have free sex and fuck around who ever I wanted.
Perhaps if I could also not care!
Perhaps if I could really also not care at all !
Perhaps If I could not care about you!
Perhaps if I could just say “fuck it” a bit more often.
Just like “fuck it”
With a smile, cos i imagine I would be happy. And free.
But I am wondering, am I less free if I follow, you or you? Or maybe you can follow me?
If i was alone in this world would I feel free?
Why this obsession with freedom, with individuality..
what if I want to be just like you , what if I want to belong.. what If I don’t know what I am. Without you.
What if my identity is based on you, and your identity is based on me.
I feel lost without you, I guess I feel free.
What shall I do with this immense freedom. I don’t know what to do with this freedom.
With this freedom I could be a Dogg, a man, a cockroach, I could stand on a table in the Finanzamt and I could pee while singing “I have nothing” by Whitney Houston.
“Thats wrong” is a sentence that does not touch me.. In fact I am so free I could be “wrong” all the time, I wouldn’t care. If you are really truly free, you also would not care, you know you might join me on the table in the Finanzamt! But you would not care about me, about that we would stand there together, what’s how free you would be.
You would have no desires to be my friend or my lover, you would have no expectations of how long we should pee and sing together. And you would not care of what I think of you. It would not even cross your mind.
